Frequently Asked Questions

Coffee beans are best stored in airtight containers away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Our storage solutions feature vacuum-sealed containers with one-way valves that allow carbon dioxide to escape while preventing oxygen from entering, which helps preserve the beans' flavor and aroma. Keep containers in a cool, dark place—ideally between 50–70°F. Avoid the refrigerator or freezer unless storing for extended periods, as condensation can compromise quality. For optimal freshness, purchase beans in smaller quantities and use them within two to four weeks of the roast date.

Burr grinders use two rotating or stationary burrs to crush beans into uniform particles, delivering consistent grind sizes essential for even extraction and superior flavor. They offer precise control over grind coarseness and are ideal for pour-over, espresso, and French press brewing. Blade grinders, by contrast, use spinning blades that chop beans unevenly, resulting in inconsistent particle sizes that can lead to over-extraction and bitter flavors. While blade grinders are more affordable and compact, burr grinders provide the control and consistency that serious coffee enthusiasts demand. For the best cup, we recommend investing in a quality burr grinder.

Grind size directly impacts extraction time and flavor profile. For espresso, use a fine, powder-like grind; for pour-over and Chemex, choose medium grind; for French press and cold brew, select coarse grind. Finer grinds increase surface area, speeding extraction and producing bolder flavors, while coarser grinds slow extraction for smoother, less intense brews. Many of our grinders feature multiple settings allowing you to adjust from extra-fine to extra-coarse, making them versatile for any brewing method. Experimentation is key—start with recommended settings and adjust based on taste until you achieve your perfect cup.

While grinding fresh beans immediately before brewing yields the best flavor, pre-ground coffee can be stored in airtight containers for up to two weeks. Ground coffee has significantly more surface area exposed to oxygen, causing it to stale faster than whole beans. If you must store ground coffee, use our vacuum-sealed containers and keep them in a cool, dark place. For the most flavorful experience, we strongly recommend grinding only what you need shortly before brewing. This ensures maximum aroma and taste extraction during your brewing process.

Regular maintenance extends your grinder's lifespan and ensures optimal performance. After each use, empty the hopper and wipe internal surfaces with a dry brush to remove bean residue. Weekly, use specialized grinder cleaning tablets or beans to remove coffee oils that accumulate on burrs. Monthly, disassemble removable parts if possible and clean thoroughly with a damp cloth, ensuring everything dries completely before reassembly. Electric grinders should never be immersed in water. Avoid grinding oily or flavored beans, as they can clog burrs faster. Proper care keeps your grinder functioning smoothly for years to come.

Yes, our vacuum-sealed storage containers are specifically engineered for extended coffee preservation. They feature airtight seals and one-way valves that allow fresh beans to degas naturally while blocking oxygen and light exposure. For optimal results, store containers in a cool, dark location away from heat and humidity. Under these conditions, beans can maintain quality for three to six months, though we recommend consuming within the first month for peak flavor. Our containers are also stackable and come in various sizes, making them ideal for both home use and small coffee businesses seeking practical storage solutions.

Manual grinders require hand-cranking to grind beans, offering portability, precision control, and a meditative brewing ritual. They are ideal for travel, small quantities, and those who value the hands-on experience. Electric grinders automate the grinding process, delivering consistent results quickly and with minimal effort, making them perfect for daily use and larger batches. Manual models are quieter and more affordable, while electric versions save time and provide uniform grind sizes effortlessly. Your choice depends on your lifestyle—manual grinders suit enthusiasts valuing control and portability, while electric grinders benefit those prioritizing convenience and consistency.

Absolutely. Most grinders, especially burr models, can handle various bean types and origins without issue. Whether you prefer single-origin, blends, light roasts, or dark roasts, simply adjust the grind setting to match your brewing method and bean characteristics. Some beans may require slightly finer or coarser adjustments depending on their density and roast level, but this is a simple dial or setting change. To prevent flavor contamination between vastly different bean varieties, clean your grinder between switching bean types using our grinder cleaning tablets or rice. This ensures each coffee's unique profile shines without residual flavors from previous beans.
